Vibration tools for tiles: when they help

Vibration function on the suction lifter distributes the adhesive and reduces voids. The limits of the method.

What the vibration achieves

A tile rarely sits perfectly on the adhesive. Fine vibrations set the adhesive moving, it spreads more evenly and air pockets rise to the surface.

The result is fewer voids and better adhesion. The effect is particularly clear with large formats and tough adhesives.

Limitations

Vibration does not replace full-surface adhesive application. Too little adhesive remains too little, even if it is vibrated. It is also no substitute for a levelling system.

Some sensitive natural stones or thin tiles can react to vibration. Test first on an offcut.

Operation

  • Lift the slab and bring it into position.
  • Position the suction lifter and build up vacuum.
  • Switch on vibration briefly, do not let it run continuously.
  • Set the slab down, release the vacuum, check the result.
  • Alternatives

Without a vibration function, a rubber mallet, a levelling system and a clean notched trowel help. If you rarely lay large-format tiles, you can manage well with these.
