Preparation
Check the device before every use. The rubber pad must be clean, dry and undamaged. A cracked pad will not hold a vacuum. If any damage is visible, replace the pad before lifting a panel.
Also clean the plate surface. Dust, sand, silicone and adhesive residue are the most common reasons for dropping vacuum. For glass, a lint-free cloth is often enough.
Attaching
Place the suction lifter flat on the tile. With an 8-inch suction pad, its edge should be at least 5 cm from the tile edge. Make sure the pad is fully in contact and no air is trapped under the base.
Press the device on briefly and start the pump. Many models start automatically as soon as they are pressed on.
Check vacuum
Wait until the display shows a stable reading. If the reading falls slowly, the pad is not seated correctly or the tile is not airtight. In this case, stop and start again.
Check the vacuum again shortly before you lift the load. A good suction lifter displays the reading continuously, not only when it is switched on.
Lifting and carrying
Lift with a straight back and bent legs, not from the lower back. When carrying, hold the panel vertically and close to your body. Avoid jerky movements.
Electric vacuum lifters automatically re-pump when the vacuum drops. Nevertheless: for longer distances, set the load down in between or use a transport frame.
Setting down and releasing
Put the tile down in a controlled manner before releasing the vacuum. Many devices have a button for releasing it. Never release the vacuum over an edge where the tile could tip.
After setting it down, clean the pad and device, check the battery level and charge it if needed. That way the device is ready for immediate use next time.
