Vacuum display and pressure gauge: why they are important

A visible pressure check is the best protection against falling panels. What displays and pressure gauges can do.

Why the vacuum must be visible

The most dangerous moment is not lifting, but holding. If the vacuum drops, the panel will eventually fall off, often without warning. A gauge makes this process visible and gives you time to react.

Many accidents with suction lifters happen because the vacuum decreases unnoticed. With a display, you can see immediately whether the value remains stable or slowly drops.

Digital or analogue

Digital displays show the value in millibars or as a bar, and often light up in the dark as well. They are easy to read, even when the tile is large. Dial gauges are mechanical and need no battery, but are harder to read when the type is small.

Both options are better than no display at all. What matters is that you can read the status while wearing it.

Warning values

  • The ideal negative pressure for a good suction lifter is around -0.6 to -0.8 bar.
  • If the value drops visibly and permanently, stop and reposition.
  • A brief re-pumping of the automatic system is normal, but constant re-pumping is not.
  • In cold conditions, the vacuum can build up more slowly, but this is usually not an issue.
  • Additional functions

In addition to pressure, some devices show the battery level, a charging forecast or an alarm on pressure drop. An acoustic alarm is particularly useful on noisy construction sites.

Our database flags devices with a display as a feature. In the Gripster with digital display category, you will find the suitable models.
