Rent or buy a suction lifter?

For one-off projects, hiring can be cheaper. We run the numbers on both options.

When buying makes sense

If you work regularly with large-format glass or glass, buying is worthwhile after just a few uses. A good device lasts many years, and replacement pads extend its service life.

Buying also has the advantage that you are familiar with the device and accessories, and the batteries remain compatible.

When renting makes sense

For a single project or a one-off large job, renting can be cheaper. Especially for very heavy panels that require an expensive special device.

When renting, check the condition of the pad and the display before using it.

Comparison

  • Purchase: high initial investment, low cost per use, immediately available.
  • Rental: no commitment, but logistics and reliance on availability.
  • Rental device often comes without a battery, so check the accessories.
  • When buying, order replacement pads and accessories at the same time.
  • Rule of thumb

If you work with suction lifters more than three or four times a year, buying is usually cheaper. For a one-off project, renting is often sufficient.
