Cup size and pad care: keeping the grip

The right size

The pad must sit fully. An oversized cup on a narrow slab grips only partly and slips more easily.

Measure the slab width and choose a cup that fits with a margin.

Clean before every lift

Dust, silicone and adhesive residue destroy the grip. Wipe pad and slab with a clean cloth before every lift.

In cold weather rubber hardens and grips less. Warm the pad briefly or allow less headroom.

Replacing pads

Pads wear out. When the lip turns hard or cracked, replace it before the grip fades.

When buying, check that spare pads are available.
